Is your House Haunted?

Maybe you have experienced weird happenings in your home such as seeing things out of the corner of your eye and when you look, they are not really there or hearing footsteps on your staircase. Maybe you just have a feeling of eeriness in general. Whatever the case, you have come to the conclusion that it’s a possibility that your house is haunted. But you’re not really sure and you want to be able to tell if there really is a ghost in your house. Sometimes you may have to call in the professionals to be able to tell if a ghost is present but there are some things you can do beforehand yourself to make things a little clearer.

There are many different signs that your house may be haunted. Those include: noises that cannot be explained such as footsteps, knocks, and banging; hearing doors and cupboards slam open and closed; lights that turn on and off; items that seem to disappear on their own only to reappear the same way; shadows with no object to make the shadow; pets behaving in unusual manners; a feeling of being watched. These are the most common signs that a ghost is in the home but there are more rare occurrences that could also indicate a haunting. These are: seeing things move of their own accord; feeling something or someone touch you; hearing muffled voices or other human voice noises; hot and cold spots, and smells that can’t be explained. These can then lead to a more advanced form of haunting in which a shape or human-like figure can appear out of nowhere, physical abuse, and finding things such as writing on paper or handprints or footprints that have no reason for being where they are.

Thinking or knowing that your house is haunted can be quite disturbing. Although ghosts are generally harmless and are there for a reason that has nothing to do with those that live in the house, they often cause quite a bit of unrest and can make for unpleasant situations. There are however, some things that can be done when a house is haunted.

The first thing to do is to pay special attention to the things that are happening and try to find reasonable explanations for them. Maybe the wiring in the house needs to be updated and that’s why lights are flickering. Or a draft from a doorway could be causing a cold spot in the house. Investigate what the probable reasons could be and if you do think there’s a ghost, continue to investigate. If there is no reasonable explanation, start keeping a log of what happens including the day and time that the occurrences happen. This will be a valuable resource if you need to call in professionals.

The last resort is to call a paranormal investigator. These professionals have special equipment that will help determine whether or not there is a ghost in your home. If they determine that there is a ghost in your home, they will also be able to help send the ghost on their way and encourage it to leave your home.
