There are many different types of people when it pertains to ghosts. There are those that don’t believe in ghosts at all and those that believe somewhat in ghosts but other than hearing the occasional story really have no interest in them. There are also those that are extremely interested in ghosts and love hearing and researching on any topic pertaining to them. After those types of people, there’s another rare breed – those that love to track ghosts down and get their experiences on some sort of recordable device, whether it be a digital camera or a video recorder. But before grabbing your equipment, there are a few things to know about ghost hunting.
The first is to understand what it is. There are two methods to looking for ghosts. The first is ghost hunting, which is to explore a place where there have been no sightings and go in search of ghosts. Ghost investigation is to go to a place where there’s said to be a known ghost and try to gather information to prove or disprove the existence of the ghost. During a ghost investigation, one may also try to get the ghost to leave. Usually this type of searching for ghosts is left to the experts.
It’s important to do some research on the different types of ghosts so you will know what to do if you encounter them. For the average person, seeing a ghost that is similar in personality as they were in life is probably not going to do much harm and will be fun to watch for a little while. However, if you come across something such as a poltergeist, you will want to leave as soon as possible in order to protect yourself from unwanted activity that you may not have been expecting.
The next thing you should do before you head out on a ghost hunt is to do as much research on the location as possible. You will want to find historical information on the location to find out its history and you may also want to look it up on ghost hunting sites to see if people have experienced paranormal activity at the spot and if so, what it was.
There are also some practical things to keep in mind when you are heading out on a ghost hunt. The first thing you should do is to scout out the area in daylight so that you can familiarize yourself with the surroundings before you head out in the dark. There are some obstacles and dangerous areas that you may not be able to see when walking around in the dark and you want to make sure you are aware of them before you injure yourself. While you are looking around, watch for “No Trespassing” signs. You need to respect people’s property and if they don’t want you there, don’t go. There are lots of places to ghost hunt, simply find another place. Along the same lines, if you are ever asked to leave, do so with no objection. Again, there are lots of places to ghost hunt and you don’t want to be somewhere where you are not wanted.
Bring identification with you in case authorities show up and want to see it. Also bring someone with you just in case you do get hurt. It will most likely be the middle of the night and you want to have someone that can call for help. The best hours for ghost hunting have been shown to be 9:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. Although paranormal activity can happen at any time, this has been shown to be the best time. Photographs are also best taken during this time.
